Christmas Markets & Andre Rieu

Join us on our exclusive trip to see the Master of Music, Mr Andre Rieu.  This trip will book up fast as concert seats are hard to come by. 

André Léon Marie Nicolas Rieu is a Dutch violinist and conductor best known for creating the waltz-playing Johann Strauss Orchestra. Rieu and his orchestra have turned classical and waltz music into a worldwide concert touring act. Rieu's father was conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. Showing early promise, André began studying violin at the age of five. From a very early age, he developed a fascination with orchestra. He studied violin at the Conservatoire Royal in Liège and at the Conservatorium Maastricht, (1968–1973), studying under Jo Juda and Herman Krebbers He speaks six languages: Dutch, English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.  One of my favourite’s pieces form his Greatest hits is the Beautiful Blue Danube and of course the Bolero.

As well as this fantastic concert in his hometown, you will have the chance to visit the local Christmas markets on the famous Grand Place and enjoy a day trip to Brugge. Enjoy Belgian waffles and hot chocolate in the many outlets around the square.  If you are a bit more adventurous you can sample the Moules Mariniere and Frites served in many restaurants throughout the city.

Depart Dublin airport at 3.30pm for your direct flight to Brussels arriving at 6:10pm.  Brussels is one hour ahead of British time.  The flight is just over 1.5 hours.  Transfer to your hotel in the centre of Brussels.

The 4* NH Brussels Grand Place Arenberg hotel is right next to Grand Place – the city’s central square. It’s really handy for public transport too, so it makes an ideal base whether you’re here for business or pleasure.

5-minute walk from Grand Place, the city’s main square, close to sights like the Royal Palace, plus Rue Neuve – the main shopping street – and a string of museums

Breakfast at hotel.  Free time to enjoy Brussels centre. 

You are in the centre and within walking distance of the flea market, main shopping street, Grand Place, Manequin Pis, Chocolate Museum and many other attractions.

Wrap up warm as late afternoon we depart Brussels for your 1.5-hour journey to Maastricht for the concert starting at 8pm. A Christmas market with numerous charmingly decorated stalls provides the culinary delights.

14 DECEMBER 2024

Breakfast at hotel.  Morning free to recover from last nights festivities.  Depart Brussels at 1pm to Brugge.  The journey is about one hour.  Enjoy free time in Brugge in the local markets or little tea shops, taking in the Christmas ambience. The medieval town of Brugge comes alive close to Christmas, so it makes a picturesque choice for our evening.

Return to hotel for overnight.

15 DECEMBER 2024

Breakfast at hotel.  Free time in Brussels to buy your last-minute Belgian chocolate before departing the hotel around 1pm for your homeward flight at 4.10pm arriving in Dublin just before 5pm.

The tour will be escorted by a representative of Thompson Travel International who will escort the tour form Dublin.  Depending on where travellers live, we may book a coach to Dublin airport at a convenient pick-up point This will be advised once the tour full.
