Bardolino, Lake Garda - Sharon's Experience
Thompson Travel Holidays Blog
I have to say it would be difficult to find somewhere in Europe as scenic as the Lakes in Italy. Lake Garda always has been a firm favourite. Everyone has their favourite spot on the lake, but I have to say mine must be Bardolino. It’s got the right balance between picturesque and plenty to do. A walk along the edge of the lake or a perfect pizza at the harbour is my idea of a holiday. There is no need for a car as the transfer to Bardolino is one of the shortest from Verona and hopping on and off the local cruiser to any other spot on the lake is perfect. Sitting on that top deck as you visit a local market in a nearby town, watch the other sailors or take a dip in the lake – idyllic.
Two of my favourites, but not the most expensive hotels have to be the firm favourite of Hotel Parc Gritti as it sits along the shore and is only a few minutes’ walk to the centre. It’s an older hotel so opt for the upgraded rooms. They give it a whole new feel of freshness. If you fancy a bit of a ‘spa’ feel, then it must be Aqualux. It has 8 pools – that means two things – lots of options to try out various spa pools, but also to feel that nowhere is crowded.
Lake Garda is busy in July & August so if you can go slightly off peak the prices reflect that. B&B is a good option too as there are plenty of little tavernas and restaurants offering fantastic food if you fancy a change each night.
Tip – when booking Italy always check with us. We have been to the hotels. Half board options vary in standard all around the lake!
